Malton Town Council are carrying out a General Project Consultation and Precept Increase Survey, seeking the views of Malton residents with regard to the New Malton cemetery chapels repair and refurbishement.
Malton Cemetery, owned and managed by Malton Town Council, has served the community for hundreds of years. Central to the Cemetery are two iconic buildings; The Cemetery Chapel and Chapel of Rest. The Cemetery Chapel was regularly used for private memorial services on site but closed due to extensive structural repairs needed to the property. As the buildings are listed, the Town Council has a legal responsibility to maintain these buildings, any repairs undertaken have to reflect and respect the ecclesiastical listed status of the buildings and, as such, escalates costs associated with the repairs. This is essential work that we would like to take forward so we can bring the buildings back into community use, but we do require a loan, and in seeking such, require the support from yourselves. The loan would cost approximately £2.20 per year which would be taken into account as from next year’s precept.
A copy of the questionnaire available to download below will be delivered to every parishioner of Malton.
